As Seen On

The most powerful story in the world is…

…the one you tell yourself.

We tell ourselves stories all day long. Stories about why our book isn’t written. Stories about why our story isn’t interesting. Stories about why we don’t have enough money. Stories about why our partner is angry with us. Stories about why strangers look at us funny. Stories about why our knee hurts. (No, WebMD is not my friend).

These stories are rarely correct. And (perhaps ironically) rarely positive.

Why are we doing that to ourselves?

What would happen if we changed our stories. What would happen if we told ourselves that our books will sell like crazy because we’ll work until they do. That our story is amazing because it’s ours. That we don’t have enough money because 1) we’re more aware of what we don’t have than grateful for what we do and/or 2) we’ve been on our asses all day watching Netflix instead of working for it. That our partner isn’t angry at all; he’s just tired. That the stranger doesn’t think we’re weird; she thinks our shirt is awesome and she’s wondering where to get one just like it. That we need to do fewer squats {wink}.

Stop telling yourself the story that keeps you small.

Stop telling yourself the story that you don’t deserve everything you want.

Stop telling yourself the story that you can’t finish what you start.

Or control your emotions.

Or manage more than 3 tantrums per day.

Or find time to read a great book.

Or are worthy of great happiness and profound joy every single minute of every single day.

Just stop.

Every time you start, catch yourself. Start the story over.

Once upon a time…

There was a girl who wrote an amazing book that millions of people loved.

There was a boy who started a million-dollar brand with $5 and a whole lot of hustle.

There was a woman who loved the way she looked in a bikini.

There was a guy who saw the good in every situation.

There was a kid who learned to ride a zebra. Backwards.

There was a tattoo covered bodybuilder who was the most sensitive, compassionate person on the block.

There was a wallflower who was courageous enough to confidently walk into the crowded room and introduce herself to one person — who ended up being the love of her life.

Start telling yourself THAT story.

Because the most powerful story in the world….

… is the one you tell yourself.
